Today and This Week etc. July 21 2011, 0 Comments

The weather is insanely hot and I am moving the store form one location to another.

The paint finally arrived as I mentioned , dealing with the shipping issues and Canada customs made me almost crazy.  But each and everyone of you had been wonderful about the delay, so by Saturday I should have all the orders packed weighed and ready for shipping and you will be getting a call to get your payment information.

No to mention the debit machine was not working, I had problems with the new hook up I left Bell (thank god , if anyone has dealt with them you know what I mean) to a new provider and the terminal I have was not compatible with the new phone line.  But the service I got was amazing and the Cutie that came to fix the problem today was great. So we are up and running , with that part anyway.

The new store will be organized in the next week , and if you are in the area please drop by, always glad to see a new face and bring some work gear , I am sure we can find something for you to do.

Oh did I tell you I also had to put my dog down he was 14 and an amazing friend. :(

What a week!!!!!

Oh and I have  a couple of kitchen designs to present!!

Remember the new location 357 Main Street in Bath, Ontario, just 20 minutes west of Kingston and 20 minutes east of Beautiful Prince Edward County and Bath is on the water too, we have a  couple of great parks, wonderful ice cream shop. Lesly and Jason and their two beautiful children THE MAIN STREET CREAMERY.

All this has made me tired and off to bed early to night.

Until next time stay cool , enjoy and remember before and after pictues of your Annie Sloan projects , they are an inspiraton to all.

It's Here! July 17 2011, 0 Comments

Finally the chalk paint arrived. Long overdue, delays in customs etc. etc. my apologies to all.

We are putting all the orders together and hopefully will have them all out by the end of the week.

The bugs have been ironed out and hopefully will not have to endure this delay again, I am hoping to have all the colours stocked at all times. If you are planning to do a pick-up please e-mail us ahead of time so we can put your order aside, I would not want any one to make a trip and be dissapointed  that your colour is not in stock.

I am travelling in August to be certified and once that is done will be teaching classes.

I am also in the process of moving and should be at the new location soon. The new address is 357 Main Street Bath, Ontario , just west of Kingston and easy access from the Highway if you are travelling. The new  phone number is 613-881-0165 if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to call. If you are ordering paint, our online site should be ready soon. But if you know the colours just send us an e-mail and we can process the orders.

Don't forget to take before and after pictures, they are inspirtion to all of us painting and nice way to connect with others who have mutual interests.

Til next time

Elizabeth

Hemp Fabric Correction June 27 2011, 0 Comments

Hi Everyone

I made a mistake and posted the wrong fabric, this is it here...

Hemp Twill

Content: 55% Hemp 45% Cotton  Width: 58 inches  Weight:10.50z Colours: Natural, Blue, Black, taupe, Olive and Army Green.

Hemp Fabric June 24 2011, 0 Comments

Hemp is one of my favourite fabrics to use. I have been using it since 1999  in various home decor projects, slip covers, draperies, just to name a few.

Hemp is one of the most eco-friendly fabrics. Hemp requires no pesticides to grow it is a renewable resource that can be culivated in as little as 100 days and is a very versatile fabric.

Hemp is a very strong fabric and is eight times that of cotton fiber. Hemp has long been long used in sails and rope for the British and American Navies.

It is also hypo-allergenic and non-irritating to the skin. Hemp has the look of linen and can also have the feel of linen ( depending on the blends). Hemp like linen will soften with age after each washing.

I am pleased to offer  two of my favorite  Hemp fabrics, both available by the metre. Both suitable for draperies, slipcovers ( great for the shabby chic look ) and upholstery.

Herringbone

Content: 55% hemp 45% cotton   Weight: 12.0 oz  Width: 59 inches   Colour: Natural

Hemp Linen

Content: 50% hemp 50% line Weight: 4.7 oz Width: 58 inches Colour:  variety such as natual, olive and many others.

If you have any questions or would like to order the product please email elizabeth@themelonpatch.com. Samples are available, just send us a quick note with your mailing address.

A New Year! January 12 2011, 1 Comment

I know it’s a little late but it is still early January so it still counts!

Last year the Melon Patch was busy and exciting. It is hard to believe that at the end of January, it will be two years that we have been at our current location. How time flies when you are having fun.

We completed a number of projects both indoors and out, met some wonderful new faces and formed lasting friendships, I hope that your year was as eventful as ours.

Over the next few months, I will be posting some of the new design trends for 2011.

Some returning trends are bold and dramatic paint colours, navy blue and black for wall and trim among a few.

Little did I know that when I was planning my kitchen renovation in the early summer of 2010 that I would be a part of this year’s trend!?

I repainted my very bright and bold kitchen with calmer quieter Colour. The walls got a coat of Silver Screen from C2 # 8287, the cabinets on the prep wall a coat of Black low lustre Melanie paint form Para Paints. I love the colour black, for me it defines and anchors a room. The remaining cabinets Muslin from Benjamin Moore # CC110 in addition to the new paint colours in my kitchen, repainted all the trim and ceiling colours. The trim Phantom11-31 and the ceilings to Arrowroot 29-32 both are colours from Pratt & Lambert; it was a better blend with the new kitchen colour.  I am still on the hunt for a backsplash.

The previous year I replaced the island counter top from tile to black granite. The prep counter was replaced with stainless steel.  A new sink came with the counter top. A single 10” deep sink, with a drain hole at the back.

C-tech sink: the sink came with its own strainer, which catches all the nasty stuff that would normally go down the drain. No more plugged sinks.

Blanco Compost Bin: I also installed a counter mounted compost bin.

These can be installed in any counter top. Stone, tile, ceramic, providing you have you have room for the bin underneath. The bin lifts out, so you can dispose of the waste.

When you put it back it’s flush with the counter top, the lid goes on and it is sealed.

The finishing touches happened on Christmas Eve and all worked out beautifully since I was the hostess for this year for Christmas dinner.

My year starts with a fresh new look for a New Year. I really cherish my home and love to be there as much as possible as my surroundings make me content and relaxed.

I’m a flea market and antique junkie. I think is the thrill of the hunt and of course the odd bargain none of us can resist. Mixing old and new gives character to a room.

One of my bargains was a silver tray, sometimes you need to look beyond the tarnish.

Flea Market Silver Tray: I put in on the front hall table, to place my keys on, so there is no mad dash to find them in the morning.

I am starting my New Year with a new look.

If you would like a new look it can be as simple as some new accessories, a new paint colour, new coverings for your existing furniture or a room re-mix or perhaps a one-day make over!

Call 613-541-0231 or email elizabeth@themelonpatch.com and we'll help make your New Year exciting in your home!

This year we’ll working on bringing you an online store. So you can browse at our new finds new and vintage in the comforts of your home.

Her are few of our new finds...

Bainbridge Blues

I love fabric and these have a wonderful feel. I not only choose this company for their fabrics but for their Philosophy as well.

“buy classic, buy quality, buy less, live simply, live well….”

This been my mandate for years , but as small retailer in the chaos of China-made products it can be a challenge, so I seek companies and products that have a similar agenda.

In the coming year I’ll strive to find more products that meet that criteria.

If you are a fan of Sara’s Farmhouse (Sara Richardson from HGTV), then you will love this collection. Bainbridge Blues are Heirloom quality textiles that are designed in the USA on Bainbridge Island off the Coast of Washington State and woven in Italy.

This collection of fabrics is woven from 100% natural environmentally friendly fibres starting with Hemp. These textiles are simple and approachable with a fresh new look at the traditional colour pallet.

Wire Egg Basket (Vintage)

These are just a few of the new arrivals.

If you would like more information please e-mail elizabeth@themelonpatch.com

Have a great 2011!

December: The Busy Month! December 03 2010, 1 Comment

It’s hard to believe that it is already December; I always find this month hectic with so many things to do before the holidays, and Projects to finish for clients…it makes me tired just to think about it!

The new MP Blog is working out well and I’ll be posting more often – after a couple of lessons!

The last few years the holidays have been quiet at our house, this year in addition to trying to finish my house; our Cousin/Uncle Milosh is coming for two weeks!!!!!!

He said he would do some of the cooking, so that means my kitchen has to be ready!

Renovations Continued…

Back in July, I started my own Renovation Project, by taking down the ceiling and having the roof fixed. We are finally back at it, in between jobs you might say, and Dave is painting and doing a multitude of things for me at the house and is doing a wonderful job with wallpapering, painting, removing the old counter so the new one can go on; and the list goes on and on! I’ll be posting the new look of my renovation in the New Year.

New MP Project!

We’ve been busy at the Melon Patch the last few months, and our latest Project, the ‘Little House in Napanee’ and it’s Before and After pics have been posted – be sure to check it out!

MP Store Update

The shop is full of new goodies for your home or gift giving!

I have been in love with Burlap for some time and we now have Burlap Cushions! (size 18.5 x 18.5)

Plus beautiful bamboo throws and a great collection of candles!

Make time for a visit and find that special present for your special someone!

Until next time!
